From One Pancreas to Another . . . (1/12/11-1/15/11)  my opinions/comments in purple

1.  What do you carry in your purse or supply bag for lows:
    • glucose tabs, a juice box, fruit rollup
    • apple juice, smarties, Aunt Anne's fruit bunnies
    • glucose tablets and granola bars
    • juice box and skittles
    • Glucose tabs and Juice
    • juice boxes, glucose tabs and smartees
    • Capri-Suns, Skittles, Smarties
    • Starbursts and Smarties
    • Glucagon, Cake Mate (white to minimize stains!) Juice, Starbursts
    • yogo's and frosting for emergency
    • everything lol. Juice starburst skittles pixie sticks

2.  What do your kiddos drink when not low (you know, for fun!):
    • water, milk
    • water, sometimes I'll let her have diluted OJ. We don't do sugar free

    • Sugar Free Kool aid or Crystal light
    • Diet Dew, Minute Maid just 10 flavored fruit water I just discovered these at our local Hy-Vee and they are dye free, HFCS free, no artificial sweeteners and only 2 carbs a pouch!

    • Chrystal Light, diet soda, or if we're getting really crazy we mix the two =)

3.  Does your child wear any sort of medical id bracelet or tag? If so, what type? We are now using this bracelet
    • 3D band (the silicone type)
    • A cute princess (chain) bracelet with purple and pink beads

    • 2, one is fabric with a metal disk (it was a gift) and one from online that Papa bought her, it has charms and is silver

    • the rubber ones, I ordered a pretty beaded metal one but she won't keep it on

    • Aiden won't wear it, but we got him one that was the livestrong style.
    • Yes. Personalized silicone including alert to his peanut allergy & phone numbers.
    • Road ID Bracelet--doesn't wear it as often as I'd like
    • we have had dog tags (get lost easily) and he always wears a bracelet - found good ones on e-bay.
4.  What was the length of time it took for your child's birth pancreas to exit the honeymoon phase?
    • We think it took about 5-6 months though it wasn't obvious
    • we think we are  still honeymooning (2 1/2 years later)

    • apparently she is still honeymooning here and there, but we are pretty close to the end at a year
    • about 2 years . . . . seriously!

    • not sure (we are still new to all of this, I think she might still be honeymooning
    • I don't remember a Honeymoon at all. I think she was so sick that there was nothing left by the time help arrived.

    • It had been 23 months since dx- endo feel he might just now be ending honeymoon. 2nd child- dx. in July 2010- still not on insulin he is very very early strong- honeymooning.
5.  I am afraid my daughter is going to turn into a beef stick. What types of protein are favorites?
    • ham, turkey, chicken, cheese, eggs (all kinds)
    • cheese, hard-boiled agg whites, deli meat
    • peanut butter
    • Ellie eats cheese and that is about it for the free stuff, she doesn't snack really and when she does it's usually a really low carb amount so I can get away with letting her eat it without giving a bolus
    • hamburgers... hamburgers... hamburgers... HE LOVES HAMBURGERS!
    • Lunch meat
    • Vegetarian Meat Alternatives
    • cheese sticks, turkey peperoni
    • Lunch meat, cheeses, nuts, yogurt
    • turkey bacon variety of cheeses macadamia nuts sausage
    • Eggs, yogurt, cheese, ham, bacon, cheese, tilapia, catfish and cheese.
    • Pickle Wraps are our newest fav thanks to Heather...posting tomorrow.
    • eggs, cheese sticks, lunch meat
    • Peanut butter, cheese and sometimes chicken nuggets
    • I don't focus on this much. Protein is mixed into most meals, snacks naturally.
    • Peanut butter, beef of any kind
    • CHEESE- I feel the same way about the cheese- wow.
6.  What would you do for a full night's rest?
    • ANYTHING :-)
    • the question is, what wouldn't I do???
    • I'll have to think on this one
    • Not sure...guess I haven't though about it yet! Not the full night of rest but what would I do for one!  Is there an option? sadly, no 
    • Take it in turns to do night checks, night on, night off.

    • Pay someone to take the night shift!
    • Threaten my husband. :)

    • The dog or 2 year old would wake us up anyway.

    • Wow, it boggles the mind! Have to think about that one.

    • lol. Somehow, I've adapted. Though there's a tough night here and there that can totally suck it! :)
